Agassi To Play In Open
Andre Agassi has entered next month’s U.S. Open and will be playing in his first Grand Slam tournament since he reached the semifinal of the U.S. Open last year.
Michael Stich of Germany won’t be there and neither will Stefan Edberg of Sweden or Russian Andrei Chesnokov. They are the only players of the top 100 ranked men who were not on the entry list.
Stich and Edberg have retired and Chesnokov has a broken leg.
Pete Sampras, the two-time defending champion and No. 1 in the rankings, heads the entries.
Justin Gimelstob ousted Agassi in the first round of the Infiniti Open Tuesday.
