Michael Whitney Spokane

Memorial service for Michael Whitney, 47, will be at 10 a.m. today at Free Methodist Church. Thornhill Valley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Whitney, who was born in Spokane, died July 16.

He graduated from Central Valley High School and Spokane Community College, and attended Western Washington University.

Mr. Whitney worked as boilermaker and was a member of the Boilermakers Union Local 242 for 17 years.

He is survived by his companion, Victoria Smith; a daughter, Mikayla Lynne of Spokane; his mother, Betty Whitney of Otis Orchards; his father, David Whitney Sr.; seven brothers, David Jr., Mark, Rick, Bryan, Chris, Greg and Scott; a half-brother, Patrick; and two half-sisters, Katrina and Deanna.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Spokane.

Emelie Zweigardt Spokane

Visitation for Emelie Zweigardt, 81, is scheduled from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. today at the Heritage Funeral Home. Service is planned for 10 a.m. Saturday at Hope Lutheran Church with burial following at Pines Cemetery.

Mrs. Zweigardt, who was born in Java, S.D., died Monday.

She worked as the substitute postmaster for Newman Lake for eight years and later served as the full-time postmaster for Otis Orchards for 20 years. She retired in 1979.

Mrs. Zweigardt was a member of Hope Lutheran Church and the Newman Lake Ladies Club.

Survivors include her husband of 58 years, Arnold; a son, Dennis Zweigardt of Spokane; a daughter, Dixie Bolinger of Anderson Island, Wash.; a brother, Ervin Keller of White Lake, S.D.; a sister, Martha Gallster of Aberdeen, S.D.; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hope Lutheran Church or the Salvation Army.

Eugene ‘Irvin’ Sword Spokane

No service will be held for Eugene Victor Irvin Sword, 69, at his request. Lauer Funeral Home in Deer Park is in charge of arrangements.

Born in Victoria, British Columbia, Mr. Sword died Sunday.

He served in the Navy in the 1950s and worked as a sawfiler for Northwest Hardwoods in Arlington, Wash. He retired in 1980 as a manager.

Mr. Sword later worked as a consultant with Whatcom Saw and Supply until 1995.

He moved from Twisp, Wash., to Tum Tum, Wash., in the early 1980s and last year moved to Spokane.

He is survived by his wife Margaret; two stepsons, Eric Robinson of Sedro Woolley, Wash., and Kevin Robinson of Great Falls, Mont.; two sisters, Greta Johnston of Nanoose Bay, British Columbia, and Elsie Vermier of Ladysmith, British Columbia; and eight grandchildren.

Blanche Rinker Spokane

Cryptside service for Blanche M. Rinker, 86, will be at 10:30 a.m. today at Greenwood Memorial Terrace. Entombment will follow. Riplinger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Rinker, who was born in Thief River Falls, Minn., died Tuesday.

She had lived in Spokane for more than 56 years and worked as a machine operator at White Pine and Sash for 15 years.

She is survived by two sons, Robert Jacque of Spokane and Lawrence Jacque of Roseburg, Ore.; a daughter, Ruth Rinker of Spokane; a brother, Alvin Conklin of Scottsbluff, Neb.; 14 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, Spokane Unit.

Daryle Faudree Post Falls

Service for C. Daryle Faudree, 78, will be 11 a.m. Friday at English Funeral Chapel in Post Falls.

Mr. Faudree, who was born in Cle Elum, Wash., died Tuesday.

He grew up in Cle Elum and later moved to Spokane.

Mr. Faudree had worked as an insurance agent.

He moved to Post Falls from Spokane 24 years ago.

Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Margaret; a son, Loran Faudree of Oregon; a brother, Lyle Faudree of California; a sister, Jeanette Whitman of Oregon; and three grandchildren.

Lloyd Tieken Spokane

Memorial service for Lloyd Tieken, 66, will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the Fairchild Air Force Base Chapel. Thornhill Valley Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Tieken, who was born in Mendon, Ill., died Monday.

He served in the Air Force for 26 years and later worked for Almar Appliance and White Elephant.

Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Phyllis; seven children; Kathy, Lloyd Jr. “Buzz”, Jody, Marti, Larry, Jim and Missy; two sisters, Elizabeth and Mary; a brother, Jim; and six grandchildren.

Leonard Gibbins Spokane

Memorial service for Leonard N. Gibbins, 78, will be at 3 p.m. today at Thornhill Valley Funeral Home.

Mr. Gibbins, who was born in Finley, Wash., died Tuesday.

He was a longtime Spokane resident and had owned Tuck Parts Inc. for 20 years.

He was a Mason and a Shriner.

Survivors include his wife of 39 years, Ruth; a son, Scott Madison of Indianapolis; a daughter, Connie Madison of Spokane; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Dayna Sing Colbert, Wash.

Memorial gathering for Dayna E. Sing, 42, will be at 6:30 p.m. Friday at Morgan Acres Park. Thornhill Valley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Sing, who was born in Spokane, died Monday.

He graduated from Rogers High School and later worked on various construction jobs.

Mr. Sing is survived by his wife, Vicky; a son, D.J. Sing of Spokane; a daughter, Christy Sing of Colbert; his father, J.B. Sing of Spokane; his mother, Mary Ellen Landgren of Spokane; two brothers, Bruce Sing of Colbert and Patrick Sing of Spokane; and one grandchild.

Alexander Manos Spokane

Graveside memorial service for Alexander V. Manos, 76, is set for 1 p.m. today at Spokane Memorial Gardens. Hazen and Jaeger Valley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Manos died Monday.

He was a lifetime Spokane resident and served in the Air Force during World War II.

Mr. Manos is survived by his wife of 54 years, Dorothy; a daughter, Vicki Turner; a son, Michael Manos; a brother, George Manos; and three grandchildren.

Arthur Rowley Spokane

Memorial service for C. Arthur Rowley, 67, is planned for 10 a.m. Saturday at Thornhill Valley Funeral Home.

Mr. Rowley, who was born in Dalhart, Texas, died Monday.

Mr. Rowley worked as a salesman for B & B Distributors for many years. He also worked for Mt. Distributors.

He served in the Army and was a member of the Valley Eagles Lodge and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Jackie.

Mr. Rowley is survived by two daughters, Arlene Britton and Cheri Rowley, both of Spokane; three brothers, Ernie Rowley of Texas, Harold Rowley of Oklahoma and Ed Rowley of Spokane; two sisters, Lola Rowley of California and Margarete Matz of Spokane; and three grandchildren.

Adeline Harkness Spokane

No service will be held for Adeline L. Harkness, 83. Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Harkness, who was born in Coeur d’Alene, died Monday.

She was a longtime Spokane resident and worked as a telephone operator for Eastern State Hospital for 20 years.

Mrs. Harkness is survived by two stepsons, Jack Harkness of Bremerton and Tom Harkness of Wyoming; a daughter, Judith Shaw of Kelso, Wash.; three grandchildren, six greatgrandchildren and one great-greatgrandchild.

Ruth Reynolds Spokane

No service will be held for Ruth Pauline Reynolds, 73. Private burial will be at Holy Cross Cemetery. The Cremation Society of Washington is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Reynolds, who was born in Uniontown, Pa., died July 8.

She had lived in Spokane for 40 years and worked as a reprographic specialist, camera operator, and manager for Abadan Inc. for 18 years. She later worked in retail and retired in 1982.

Her husband, Oneal Reynolds, died in 1968.

Mrs. Reynolds is survived by a daughter, Barbara Reynolds of Wilsonville, Ore.; a son, Gregory Reynolds of Spokane; two sisters, Julia Ruegg of San Francisco and Midge Rose of Silver Springs, Md.; four brothers, Stephan Kacur of Butler, Pa., Brother Noah Kacur, S.J., of Wheeling, W.Va., John Kacur of Tequesta, Fla., and Hugh Kacur of Downingtown, Pa.; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Jesuits at St. Aloysius Church or to Hospice of Spokane.

Bonnie Lyons Fall City, Wash.

No service will be held for Bonnie W. Lyons, 63, at her request. Flintoft’s Issaquah (Wash.) Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Lyons, who was born in Tekoa, Wash., died Monday.

She graduated from high school in Tekoa and later worked for the Spokane and Eastern Branch of Seafirst Bank for 23 years.

In 1968 she married Daniel Lyons and they moved to the Seattle area in 1971.

Mrs. Lyons is survived by her husband; two daughters, Sarah Lyons of Snoqualmie, Wash., and Janet Taberes of Auburn, Wash.; two stepdaughter, Susan Arefi of Seattle and Kathleen Haapenan of Elma, Wash.; three stepsons, Daniel Lyons of Kirkland, Wash., Thomas Lyons of Fall City and Kevin Lyons of Everett; her mother, Thelma Burce of Chelan, Wash.; three brothers, Darrell Bruce of Soldotna, Alaska, Larry Bruce of Harvard, Idaho, and Bob Thaves of Tekoa; a sister, Barbara Christiansen of Chelan; and eight grandchildren.

Harold Smith Spokane

Memorial service for Harold Herbert Smith, 87, is planned for 10 a.m. Saturday at Sunrise Church of Christ. Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Smith, who died July 18, was born in Merna, Neb.

He was a 20-year Spokane resident and had worked as a carpenter in home construction.

His wife, Alice, died in 1992.

Survivors include two daughters, Shirley Clouse and Mary Jane Slippy, both of Deer Park; three sisters, Geraldine Russell of Sun City, Ariz., Maxine Glaze of Broken Bow, Neb., and Kathlene Parr of Beatrice, Neb.; 16 grandchildren, 43 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.
