So, Will It Be Known As Heather’s ‘Heathers’?

Compiled By Staff Writer Rick Bo

You may remember Heather Thomas as Lee Majors’ sexy sidekick on TV’s “Fall Guy.”

Today, she’s one of the hottest screenwriters in Hollywood, having touched off a threestudio bidding war for her first screenplay.

Touchstone ended up with the rights to “School Slut,” a ‘70s-era dark comedy described as a cross between “Welcome to the Dollhouse” and “Heathers.”

“I wanted to explore the stringent rules of high school because I have two daughters,” Thomas told Entertainment Weekly.

She realizes her new career may surprise some people. “It’s like, ‘Oh! She can walk AND chew gum!”’ Thomas said. “But nobody knows I’ve been writing all along, taking classes and worshiping at the feet of the writing gods.”

Loose talk

Harrison Ford, on happiness (in Movieline magazine): “I don’t understand happiness as an ambition. As a pure ambition it’s not really worthy. I understand it as a byproduct.”

An Illeana wind blows lots of candles

Illeana Douglas turns 32 today.

Not to mention lots of really cool crashes

Sylvester Stallone has just acquired the rights to produce a film about Formula One auto racing. “Boxing and auto racing have always been two of my favorite sports,” the former “Rocky” star said. “(Now) we will see the extraordinary insights and glimpses of coverage that are inextricable components to this most passionate of speed sports.”

For ‘Double,’ it was Travolta or nothing

John Travolta reached an undisclosed out-of-court settlement with two production companies that sued him for $50 million for walking out on the planned Roman Polanksi film “Double” last year, reports Daily Variety. The project was abandoned after he left.

Hey, layyy-deee, talk to my attorrr-neee

Jerry Lewis is being sued by his ex-wife, Patti, who claims he owes her half of his earnings from last year’s remake of “The Nutty Professor,” starring Eddie Murphy. She says Lewis received more than $1.4 million for the rights to the 1963 film, which he made when they were married.

Let’s hope she’s not holding her breath

Angela Bassett (“Contact,” “Waiting to Exhale”) expects to wed fellow actor Courtney Vance (“The Preacher’s Wife”) sometime this year, although a date hasn’t been set. “I’m still single, but I have faith that’s going to change,” Bassett said. “These things take time.”

In other words, your typical newspaperman

Sharon Stone’s new squeeze is Phil Bronstein, the San Francisco Examiner’s macho executive editor. “Sharon wants a real man with a real job, not a Hollywood heartthrob whose ego wouldn’t squeeze into a limo,” a friend told The Globe. “And she’s always complained that she can’t find a man in L.A. with brains. But Phil is very intelligent, has swashbuckling good looks and has a great sense of humor.”
