Miss Bud Runs Fastest In Qualifying

Associated Press

Miss Budweiser, driven by Dave Villwock, posted the fastest qualifying speed Friday for Sunday’s Budweiser Columbia Cup. Villwock toured the 2.5-mile oval course on the Columbia River at an average speed of 163.227 mph.

Villwock, the season points leader, believes his crew made excellent preparation for the season, which has given him an edge over his rivals.

“The rules have changed a little this year. I think we did a better job preparing,” he said.

He dismissed allegations that the Budweiser team is too dominant.

“We can be beaten. We know that,” he said.

Other qualifiers included the Spokane-based Appian Jeronimo with driver Mitch Evans posting a speed of 152.475 mph.

Another session of qualifying will be held today, with the race to be run Sunday.
