Donald Menzel Deer Park

Service for Donald Roy Menzel, 77, will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the Church in the Wildwoods in Deer Park. Burial will be at Holy Redeemer/Kelly Cemetery in Deer Park. Lauer Funeral Home in Deer Park is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Menzel, who was born in Granite Falls, Wash., died Monday.

He served in the Army during World War II in the Southern European Theater. He later worked as a cook in restaurants and institutions in Spokane and was a self-employed logger.

Mr. Menzel moved from Spokane to Deer Park in 1975.

He was a member of the Church in the Wildwoods and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3067.

Survivors include his wife, Lenora; a son, Ronald VanSlate of Spokane; a daughter, Gail Grantham of Deer Park; two brothers, Richard and Jim Menzel both of Granite Falls; a sister, Deloris Harrison of Alaska; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Robert Barnes II Port Angeles, Wash.

Graveside service for Robert Barnes II, 80, will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the Ritzville Memorial Cemetery. Danekas Funeral Home in Ritzville is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Barnes, who was born in Ritzville, died Thursday.

He graduated from Ritzville High School and later served in the Air Force during World War II.

He worked for the Spokane, Portland and Seattle Railroad and retired as an engineer. He also owned Topper Inc., in Vancouver, Wash., and later operated the family farm in Benge, Wash.

He retired and moved Port Angeles in 1980.

Mr. Barnes is survived by his wife, Kathleen; a son, James Barnes of Lake Oswego, Ore.; three daughters, Pamela Secrest of Salem, Ore., Valerie Filion of Camas, Wash., and Roberta Wraspir of Odessa, Wash.; seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Silver Douglas Spokane

Private burial was held for Silver B. Douglas, 81.

Mrs. Douglas, who was born in Dubois, Idaho, died July 19.

She graduated from Latah High School in Idaho and later worked in real estate sales for more than 20 years.

Mrs. Douglas was a 60-year Spokane resident and was a member of the First Assembly of God Church.

Her husband, Murvel Douglas, died in 1963.

She is survived by two sons, Richard and Gregg Douglas; two daughters, Charlotte Stone and Jeanette Hardwick; a sister, Goldie Cook of Tacoma; nine grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

Helen (Nygaard) Delaney Spokane/Coeur d’Alene

Memorial service for Helen (Nygaard) Delaney, 72, will be at 7 p.m. Sunday at the Unitarian Universalist Church in Spokane. Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home is in charge of cremation.

Mrs. Delaney, who was born in Spokane, died July 17.

She graduated from North Central High School and Eastern Washington College of Education.

Mrs. Delaney was involved in pioneering the Head Start Program in Washington and was an educator for School District 81 at Loma Vista, Browne and Emerson elementary schools.

She was a member of the Unitarian churches in Spokane and Coeur d’Alene, Coeur d’Alene Audubon Society, Hanford Education Action League, Spokane Sierra Club, Inland Empire Public Lands Council and Spokane Canoe Club and worked on the Democratic Platform Committee.

Her husband, Irving Delaney, died in 1979.

Mrs. Delaney is survived by a son, Michael Delaney of Spokane; two daughters, Susan Jones of Medical Lake and Pamela McVay of Suncrest; a brother, Richard Nygaard of Lacey, Wash.; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Haruye Doi Spokane

Private service will be held for Haruye Doi, 79. The Cremation Society of Washington is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Doi, who was born in Seattle, died Thursday.

She graduated from Fife (Wash.) High School.

In 1946 she married George Doi. They farmed in Nampa, Idaho. He died in 1965.

Mrs. Doi moved to Spokane in 1987.

She is survived by five daughters, Jackie Nishimura of Edmonds, Wash., Pam Doi, Jerri Shelton and Wendy Linsday, all of Spokane, and Trudi Doi of Seattle; two sons, George Doi of Spokane and Rob Doi of Tacoma; three sisters, Sumiye Ohashi of Kent, Wash., and two other sisters in Japan; and eight grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or the March of Dimes.
