Man Critical After Crash On Columbia
A Longview man was in critical condition Saturday after his personal watercraft collided with a boat on the Columbia River, the Benton County Sheriff’s Department said.
Frederick Rice, 65, suffered multiple broken ribs, heavy blood loss and multiple facial fractures in the Friday evening accident. He is in the intensive care unit of Kennewick General Hospital.
Rice was a passenger on a personal watercraft driven by David Brewington, 41, of Pasco. Brewington suffered a broken rib and numerous bruises and was listed in stable condition.
The collision threw Rice and Brewington into the side of the boat, the Sheriff’s Department said.
They were pulled from the water by the boat’s occupants and taken to the shore.
No one on the boat was injured, but it was extensively damaged. The personal watercraft was destroyed, the Sheriff’s Department said.
