Obituaries

Annice Pearce Silverton

No service will be held for Annice King Pearce, 100, at her request. Shoshone Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Pearce, who was born in Lewiston, died Wednesday.

She had attended Lewiston Normal School.

She was a schoolteacher in Lapwai, Idaho, and briefly taught school in North Dakota before returning to the area. She moved to North Idaho in 1974 from Colorado.

She was a member of First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Boston and Colorado.

Her husband, James, died in 1991.

Survivors include two sisters, Bonnie Cain of Nevada and Raymonda DeSaussure of California; and special friends Joe and Suellen Cantrell of Silverton.

Nancy Penar Post Falls

Memorial service for Nancy Ann Penar, 68, will be at a later date in Michigan. Yates Funeral Home in Coeur d’Alene is in charge of local arrangements.

Mrs. Penar, who was born in Detroit, died Thursday.

She grew up in Indiana and moved to Michigan in 1948.

Mrs. Penar began traveling in 1978 and worked as a commercial artist before settling in Post Falls in 1993 to be near family.

Survivors include three daughters, Kathy Ruen of Post Falls, Pat Hauke of Arizona and Jan Mohney of Michigan; three sons, Tom and Jim Penar, both of Michigan, and Joe Penar of Andrews Air Force Base, Maryland; a brother, Ron Weaver of Indiana; a sister, Marion Wisner of Indiana; and nine grandchildren.

Ralph Cox Spokane

Service for Ralph R. Cox, 54, will be at 10 a.m. today at the Heritage Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Riverside Memorial Park.

Mr. Cox, who was born in Willow Springs, Mo., died Tuesday.

He had lived in Spokane for 14 years.

He worked as a restaurant supervisor for 30 years in Boise and Spokane. He was a member of the Kiwanis Club and volunteered with the Salvation Army.

Mr. Cox is survived by his wife of 35 years, Sandra; three sons, William and John Cox, both of Boise, and Mike Cox of Spokane; a daughter, Shelley Cox of Spokane; four brothers, Walt of Tacoma, Elmer of Spokane, Bill of Boise and Bob of Bakersfield, Calif.; a sister, Bonnie Collins of Salt Lake City; and 10 grandchildren.

Darlene Fiskness Spokane

Service for Darlene M. Fiskness, 69, will be at 11 a.m. today at Harvest Christian Fellowship Church. Burial will be at Riverside Memorial Park. Riplinger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Fiskness, who died Wednesday, was born Sioux City, Iowa.

She was a 36-year Spokane resident and had worked as a licensed practical nurse in Eastern Montana. She later received her surgical technician degree in Washington.

Mrs. Fiskness is survived by two daughters, Patricia Slade of Spokane and Barbara Tucker of Muldron, Okla.; two sons, Peter and Michael Therens, both of Spokane; eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to Cancer Patient Care.

Martin Wolen Usk, Wash.

Private family service for Martin Frank Wolen, 80, will be held at a later date. Sherman-Knapp Funeral Home in Newport, Wash., is in charge of arrangements.

Born in Philadelphia, Mr. Wolen died Wednesday.

He had worked in the hard-rock mining industry and was a member of the St. Jude’s Catholic Church in Usk.

Mr. Wolen moved to Usk from Edwall, Wash., 15 years ago.

Survivors include a son, Ben Wolen of Cheney; a daughter, Kristen Cassidy of Seattle; two sisters, Josephine Firce of Levittown, Pa., and Helen Whorle of Clarkston, Wash.; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Earl Rush Osburn, Idaho

Memorial service for Earl W. Rush, 58, will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Kellogg Funeral Chapel.

Mr. Rush, who was born in Wyoming, died Thursday.

He had lived in Wyoming as a child, and moved to the Silver Valley.

Mr. Rush worked as a miner at the Bunker Hill Mine for 10 years and had also worked at the Sunshine Mine.

He also worked a self-employed logger and had worked for Consolidated Freightways. He retired in 1991.

Survivors include his wife, Marie; four daughters, Connie Stanley of Spokane, Sandra Malolua of Tacoma, and Barbara Dennis and Diane Lopez, both of Arizona; three brothers, John Rush of Nevada, George Rush of Longview, Wash., and Terry Goff of Colorado; a sister, Betty King of Mullan, Idaho; and seven grandchildren.

William Bennett Sisk, O.F.M. Spokane

Funeral Mass for the Rev. William Bennett Sisk is planned for 10 a.m. today Monday at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church. Burial will be at Holy Cross Cemetery. HennesseySmith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Rev. Sisk, 74, who was born in Spokane, died Wednesday.

He attended St. Francis of Assisi School and later St. Anthony Seminary in Santa Barbara, Calif.

He did pastoral ministry in Provo, Utah, Portland, and Stockton and San Jose, Calif.

He also worked among the Native Americans in New Mexico and Arizona and with the Mexicans in Guaymas, Mexico. He also served as the spiritual assistant to the secular Franciscans in many parishes.

In 1988 he returned to the St. Francis of Assisi Parish in Spokane and served as chaplain to the Poor Clare Nuns.

He was a Franciscan for 55 years and a priest for 48 years.

The Rev. Sisk is survived by four brothers, John, Richard, Bud and James Sisk, and a sister, Patricia Ripple all of Spokane.

Ora Caviness Spokane

Visitation for Ora T. Caviness, 77, is scheduled for 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. today at the Heritage Funeral Home. Service will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home with burial to follow at Riverside Memorial Park.

Mrs. Caviness, who was born in Polkton, N.C., died Friday.

She was a homemaker and had lived in Spokane in the 1950s. She returned to Spokane 10 years ago.

Mrs. Caviness is survived by two daughters, Sylvia Visintainer and Melbern Fiedler, both of Spokane; two brothers, Grady Taylor of Arkansas and Donnie Taylor of North Carolina; a sister, Lillian “Gutherie” Williams of Arkansas; seven grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Vera Howell Gresham, Ore.

Service for Vera Howell, 91, will be at 11 a.m. today at Thornhill Valley Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Pines Cemetery.

Mrs. Howell, a former longtime Spokane resident, died Wednesday.

She was born in Garfield, Wash.

In Spokane, she had worked as a civilian at the Naval Supply Depot for 10 years.

Mrs. Howell moved to Gresham last year.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Reginald Howell.

Survivors include a sister, Letha Curtis of Pomeroy, Wash.; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Margaret Kearns Spokane

Funeral Mass for M. Margaret Kearns, 89, is set for 11:30 a.m. today at St. Aloysius Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery. Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Miss Kearns, a lifetime Spokane resident, died Thursday.

She attended Holy Names Academy and the University of Idaho and did advanced studies at the University of Chicago and Washington State University.

Miss Kearns worked as a supervisor for the Department of Social and Health Services for 20 years.

She was a member of St. Aloysius Parish and Altar Society and Alpha Chi Omega sorority.

Survivors include two sisters, Agnes Kearns and Katherine Dungan, both of Spokane.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Poor Clare Nuns.
