Army Colonel Honored At Retirement Ceremony
Army Col. Larry Gragg, a former Inland Northwest resident, was decorated with the Distinguished Service Award during his retirement ceremonies from the Army after 31 years of service.
He is 1961 graduate of Ione (Wash.) High School; he also graduated from Washington State University, where he received a master of business administration. He is the son of Irene Gragg, Spokane.
Jeffrey Roberson has earned his Eagle Scout Award. He is a member of Troop 13 and a senior at Mead High School. He is the son of Kent Roberson, Lewiston, and Linda Merchant, Spokane.
Edward Allen III, a senior mathematics major, is editor-in-chief of The Whitman College Pioneer, published by the Associated Students of Whitman College in Walla Walla. He is the son of Katherine and Edward Allen Jr. and is a 1994 graduate of Gonzaga Prep.
Annelucy Stilger Virnig, 10, received first prize in February’s Cricket League poetry competition. Her poem, “Bitterness,” appears in the May issue of Cricket Magazine.

Brock Rasmussen, a first-year architectural drafting student at Spokane Community College, won first place in a citywide competition to design a model “barrier-free” home. The contest was sponsored by the Spokane Home Builder’s Association and Tomlinson Black Realtors.
Brock Jones, a freshman at Ferris High School, served as a page in the Washington State Senate for Sen. James West from Spokane. He is the son of Brian and Karen Jones.
Rich Tucker, associate dean for student-funded programs and special projects at Spokane Falls Community College, has been named president of the Council of Union and Student Program Directors for the state’s community college system.
Paula Brown, a second-year student at Spokane Community College, was named Outstanding Dietetic Technician Student of the Year in a statewide competition sponsored by the Washington State Dietetics Association.
Paul Anderson, a senior at University High School, received a $2,000 University Achievement Award and a $4,000 University Scholar-in-Residence Award from Washington State University, where he plans to major in computer science. He is the son of Ted and Ruth Anderson.
Andrea Renford, 1995 valedictorian of North Central High School, has been accepted into Washington State University’s College of Pharmacy. She is the daughter of John and Peggy Renford.
