UW women win crew title
Striking with precision and power, the University of Washington women’s varsity crew won the school’s first bona fide NCAA team championship after more than a century of athletic competition.
In Sunday’s finale, the Husky varsity outrowed Eastern powers Massachusetts and Princeton on Lake Natoma, in Sacramento, Calif., pulling away for an open water victory.
Putting the wrap on an unblemished season - they didn’t lose a heat - the Huskies led from start to finish on the 2,000-meter course of this sun-baked reservoir on the American River.
The Huskies scored a total of 201 points. Princeton, coached by former UW rower Lori Dauphiny, was second with 184 and Brown was third at 170.
A day earlier, the Washington men’s crews swept the three major races at the Intercollegiate Rowing Association Championships in Camden, N.J., their first national victory since 1984. , DataTimes
