Frank Donahoe Spokane
Memorial service for Frank T. Donahoe, 99, will be at 2 p.m. today at the Manito Presbyterian Church. Private burial was at Greenwood Memorial Terrace. Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-South is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Donahoe, who was born in Rosalia, Wash., died Saturday.
He graduated from Rosalia High School and attended Gonzaga University.
He worked on the family farm in Rosalia until 1922, when he went to work for Pacific Telephone. He retired in 1957 as a construction supervisor.
He served in the Army tank corps during World War I, and in 1920 he married Susie Hill. She died in 1984.
In 1957 he moved to Eureka, Calif., where he worked for the Coast Oyster Co. until 1965. He returned to Spokane in 1967.
Mr. Donahoe was a member of Manito Presbyterian Church, Day Out For the Blind, Telephone Pioneers of America, the Kiwanis Club, the Masonic Lodge, the Elks Lodge, the American Legion and the Spokane Rose Society.
He is survived by a son, William Donahoe of Bellevue, Wash.; a daughter, Patricia Brown of Eureka; seven grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

Esther Adler Spokane
Service for Esther R. Adler, 54, will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Fourth Memorial Church. Graveside service will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday at Spring Valley Mennonite Cemetery in Newport, Wash. Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-North is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Adler, who was born in Ritzville, Wash., died Wednesday.
As a child she moved with her family from Lind, Wash., to Spring Valley, south of Newport.
She graduated from Newport High School, attended Grace Bible Institute in Omaha, Neb., and returned to Spokane in 1970.
Mrs. Adler worked as a certified nursing assistant at St. Joseph Care Center East Campus and was a member of Fourth Memorial Church.
She is survived by her husband of 26 years, Rodney; a son, Neil Adler, and a daughter, Lorilei Adler, both at home; her mother, Edna Woelk of Newport; two brothers, John Woelk of Addy, Wash., and Frank Woelk of Spring Valley, Wash.; and five sisters, Joan Messer of Bakersfield, Calif., Hilda Arbeiter of Huron, S.D., Betty Wendle of Newport, Lois Bowen of Portland and Evelyn Knotts of Vancouver, Wash.
Gilbert ‘Gil’ Hall Wailuku, Hawaii
Service and burial for Gilbert H. “Gil” Hall, 79, was held.
Mr. Hall, who died May 20, was born in Genesee, Idaho.
He grew up as a farmer and served with the Army during World War II. He moved to Spokane in 1945.
Mr. Hall began a long career in Spokane in the grain and garden seed business. He began spending winters in Maui almost 20 years ago and lived in Black Lake in North Idaho after his retirement during the summer.
He was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, the Spokane Valley Shrine Club and the Bandito Shrine Club of Spokane.
He had served as president of the Black Lake Homeowners Association of St. Maries.
Mr. Hall is survived by his wife of 52 years, Kathleen of Hawaii; and three brothers, Richard Hall of Moscow, Idaho, Gale Hall of California and Robert Hall of Coeur d’Alene.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Shriners Hospital for Children.
William Ruggles Northport, Wash.
Service for William “Bill” Ruggles, 60, will be at 10 a.m. today at Danekas Funeral home in Colville, Wash. Burial will be at Northport Cemetery.
Mr. Ruggles, who was born in Ashland, Ky., died Tuesday.
He served in the Air Force and was honorably discharged in 1957 .
He worked for the Department of Natural Resources for 15 years and was owner of the Deep Lake Resort at Northport for seven years.
Mr. Ruggles served as a volunteer fire chief for Fire District 10 and was a member of the Disabled American Veterans.
He is survived by a daughter, Teresa Brown of Spokane; two sons, Steve Ruggles of Colville and Stan Ruggles of Spokane; three brothers, Sam Ruggles of Montana, and Billy Joe Ruggles and Charlie Connelly, both of Ashland; a sister, Maxine Lambert of Ohio; and seven grandchildren.
Alene (Depew) English Tigard, Ore.
Memorial service for Alene A. (Depew) English, 77, was Saturday at Young’s Funeral Home in Tigard.
Born in Elk, Mrs. English died Wednesday.
She graduated from Ione (Wash.) High School and in 1941 married Archie English in Creston, Wash.
They moved to Portland in 1973. Her husband died in 1992.
Mrs. English was a self-employed day-care operator and moved to Tigard four years ago.
Survivors include a son, Michael English of Tigard; a sister, Elsie Madden of Spokane; and two grandsons.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
James Watts Spokane
Graveside service for James Franklin Watts, 85, will be at 11 a.m. today at Greenwood Memorial Terrace. Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Watts, who died Wednesday, was born in Elizabethtown, Ky.
He had lived in Spokane for 40 years and owned Watts Auto for 12 years.
His wife, Harriet, died in 1995.
He is survived by two daughters, Darlene Thompson and Audrey Staudinger, both of Spokane; five grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Bessie Carlson Spokane
Graveside service for Bessie E. Carlson, 85, was Friday at Greenwood Memorial Terrace.
Mrs. Carlson, who died Tuesday, was born Anselmo, Neb.
She worked as a housekeeper for Deaconess Hospital from 1956 until she retired in 1968.
She had lived in Spokane for 63 years.
Her husband of 21 years, Axel Carlson, died in 1960.
Mrs. Carlson is survived by a son, Keith Carlson of Spokane; two daughters, Delores Nelson of Spokane and Shirley Spillman of Everett; 13 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.
James Crigger Spokane
Graveside service for James Henderson Crigger, 87, will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Pines Cemetery Mausoleum. Thornhill Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Crigger, who was born in Sugar Grove, Va., died Thursday.
He had worked in the logging industry and was a 53-year Spokane Valley resident.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Maxine.
Mr. Crigger is survived by two sons, James Crigger Jr. and Kenneth Crigger; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Etha Merriam Post Falls
Memorial service for Etha Mildred Merriam, 92, will be today at 10 a.m. at English Funeral Chapel in Post Falls. Mrs. Merriam, who was born in South Dakota, died Wednesday.
She moved to Post Falls in 1942 before moving to Spokane in 1948.
She returned to Post Falls in 1994 and was a member of the Rebekah Lodge.
Her husband, Theodor, died in 1947.
Survivors include a son, Leslie Merriam of Post Falls; a daughter, Virginia Hart of Post Falls; three sisters, Ethel Sherman of South Dakota, and Irma Olson and Ines Ziegler, both of Spokane; three grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
James Cozine Spokane
Memorial service for James Ellis Cozine, 85, will be at 2 p.m. today at the Cremation Society of Washington.
Mr. Cozine, who was born in Lind, Wash., died Wednesday.
He graduated from Lind High School and served in the Navy during World War II and the Korean War.
He worked for the Northern Pacific Railroad for more than 20 years and was a member of the Brotherhood of Maintenance of Way Employees.
His wife of 30 years, Katherine, preceded him in death.
Mr. Cozine is survived by a sister, Isabelle Eckelberry of Post Falls; and two brothers, Eldon Cozine of Post Falls and Gerald Cozine of Spokane.
