Willis ‘Ed’ James Spokane
Service for Willis “Ed” James, 75, will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at St. Thomas More Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Riverside Memorial Park. Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. James, who was born in Worley, Idaho, died Friday.
Mr. James attended North Idaho Junior College and Stanford University and graduated from the University of Idaho with a degree in architecture.
He flew seaplanes off Lake Coeur d’Alene and later served in the 13th and 20th armored divisions under General Patton’s Third Army during World War II.
He moved from Coeur d’Alene to Spokane 48 years ago.
Mr. James was licensed as an architect in seven states and owned Willis ‘Ed’ James Associates, Architects and had worked on the Shadle Shopping Center, the KXLY building, and various commercial buildings and banks, including Gonzaga University and Washington State University.
Mr. James served on the Washington State Architectural Registration Board and was a member of the American Institute of Architects, the Prosperity Club, the Spokane Country Club, and the Delta Chi Fraternity at the University of Idaho.
In 1988, he was honored as “Man of the Year” by the Spokane Country Club.
Mr. James is survived by his wife of 48 years, Euretta; and a son, John James of Spokane.

Paul Shelley Cheney
Memorial service for Paul Shelley, 18, will be at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Cheney. Cheney Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Shelley died Friday from injuries received in an auto accident in Cheney.
He was born in Sandpoint.
He was a senior at Cheney High School and was a member of the Jazz Band and Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Cheney.
Survivors include his parents, Bruce and Carolyn of Cheney; a sister, Amber Shelley of Cheney; his grandparents, Walter and Mary Streich of Lufkin, Texas, and Dorothy and Lloyd Perrodin of Lafayette, La.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Cheney High School Band in care of Farmers and Merchants Bank in Cheney or to Emmanuel Lutheran Church.
John Cox Spokane
Memorial service for John F. Cox, 86, will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. John Vianney Catholic Church. Hazen and Jaeger Valley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Cox died Thursday.
He was born in Coeur d’Alene.
He served in the Army during World War II and later worked in the maintenance department for School District 81.
Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Gladys; a son, Charles Cox of Spokane; a daughter Joanne Smith of Veradale; and seven grandchildren.

Christina Panagakis Seattle
Service for Christina Panagakis, 91, will be at 1 p.m. today at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church. Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Panagakis, who was born in Greece, died Thursday.
She was a longtime Spokane resident and was a member of the Greek Orthodox Church Ladies Philoptochos Society and the Daughters of Penelope.
Her husband, Gust, died in 1958. She moved to Seattle in 1967.
Mrs. Panagakis is survived by a son, Paul Panagakis of Seattle.

Clifford Hunt Sequim, Wash.
Service for Clifford Harold Hunt, 71, will be at 10 a.m today at Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home. Burial will be at Greenwood Memorial Terrace.
Mr. Hunt, who was born in Spokane, died Wednesday.
He attended North Central High School and served in the Navy during World War II aboard the U.S.S. Tingey, a destroyer escort.
He received the Bronze Star, a Purple Heart and the Philippine Liberation medal.
Mr. Hunt worked as a locksmith and vault technician for Spokane Safe and Lock and Allied Safe and Vault from 1951 to 1968.
He owned the Rain Gutter Boys Co. of Spokane from 1969 until he retired in 1990.
He moved to Sequim seven years ago.
He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans.
Mr. Hunt is survived by his wife of 37 years, Virginia; children, Rick Hunt of Fresno, Calif., Randy and Reg Hunt of Long Beach, Calif., Susie Buhrig of Ramona, Calif., Chris Bunting of Post Falls and Tricia Johnston of Honolulu; a sister, Mildred Neal of Kennewick; 15 grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

Evelyn Bjorklund Laing Clarkston, Wash.
Graveside service for Evelyn Bjorklund Laing, 101, was Monday at Moscow Cemetery.
Mrs. Laing, who was born in Massachusetts, died Wednesday.
She grew up in Spokane and graduated from Lewis and Clark High School. She later moved to Winchester, Idaho.
In 1935, she moved to Moscow.
Her husband of 44 years, Arthur Bjorklund, died in 1959.
She married Roy Laing in 1962 and he died in 1983.
Mrs. Laing was recognized by President Clinton in 1996, when she celebrated her 100th birthday.
She recently moved to the Tri-State Health & Rehabilitation Center in Clarkston.
She was a member of the United Church of Moscow and the Rebekkah Lodge.
Survivors include six daughters, Mildred Brown and Dorothy Campbell, both of Spokane, Maxine Hamilton of Nez Perce, Idaho, Margaret Smith of Arizona, and Lorraine Biggs and Olive Erickson, both of California; 21 grandchildren; 49 great-grandchildren and nine great-great-grandchildren.

Cora Hart Rosalia, Wash.
Memorial service for Cora Hart, 80, was Monday at the Rosalia Baptist Church. Private burial was at the International Order of Odd Fellows Evergreen Cemetery in Rosalia.
Mrs. Hart died Thursday.
She was born in Brady, Texas, and was 44-year Rosalia resident.
She is survived by her husband of 42 years, Pete; a daughter, Betty Johnson of Kennewick; eight grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Susan Shelton Spokane
Visitation for Susan E. Shelton, 49, is scheduled from 10 a.m. to noon today at Heritage Funeral Home. Graveside service will follow at 1 p.m. at Greenwood Memorial Terrace.
Mrs. Shelton, who was born in Helena, died Friday.
She moved to Spokane in 1986 and was a self-employed antique broker.
In 1989, she moved to Florida and returned to Spokane in 1992..
Her husband, Joe Sccarett, died in 1990.
She is survived by a son, Sean Shelton.
Mary Graham Spokane
No service will be held for Mary B. Graham, 90, at her request. Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Graham, who was born in Crookston, Minn., died Monday.
She was a homemaker and had lived in Spokane for 87 years.
Mrs. Graham was a member of the Nu Chapter of Delta Gamma at the University of Idaho and St. Monica’s Guild.
Her husband, John, died in 1973.
She is survived by a son, J. Graham of Alexandria, Va.; a daughter, Judith Berryman of Auburn, Wash.; two sisters, Vivian and Irene Harvey, both of Spokane; six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Mark Johnson Spokane
Memorial service for Mark W. Johnson, 48, will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Bea House Chapel on the Gonzaga University campus. The Cremation Society of Washington is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Johnson, who was born in Ames, Iowa, died Tuesday.
He graduated from the University of Iowa and served in the Army in Korea and Vietnam.
He lived in Spokane for 15 years and worked as a stockbroker for Merrill Lynch.
Mr. Johnson was a member of St. Aloysius Parish and the Eagles Lodge No. 2.
He was preceded in death by his wife Maureen.
Survivors include his father-in-law, Al Deviny, and his aunt and uncle, Floyd and Nancy Johnson.
Mary Marcon Deer Park
Graveside service for Mary Irene Marcon, 77, will be at 1 p.m. today at the Wildrose Prairie Cemetery, south of Deer Park. Lauer Funeral Home in Deer Park is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Marcon died Friday.
She was a lifetime resident of Wildrose Prairie near Deer Park.
She graduated from Deer Park High School and was a homemaker.
Her husband, Nelo, died in 1994.
Mrs. Marcon is survived by two daughters, Dixie Goodman of Spokane and Valina Fay of Deer Park; two sisters, Charlotte Layton of Spokane and Carolyn Warner of Kennewick; and two grandsons.
Eva Andersen Spokane

Mrs. Andersen, who was born in Walla Walla, died Friday.
She and her husband, K.R. “Andy”, owned Rainier Shows and she was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star.
She is survived by her husband; a daughter, Treena Andersen of Spokane; a sister, Elsie Cowling of Tacoma; a brother, Dr. Harold Oswald of Bellingham; and two granddaughters.
Marilyn ‘Babe’ Crutcher Spokane

Mrs. Crutcher, 69, died Friday.
She was born in Everett, Wash.
She graduated from the University of Washington with a degree in physical therapy and later worked as a physical therapist at St. Mary’s Hospital in Walla Walla and for the Veterans Administration.
She had lived in Spokane for 26 years and was a member of the Spokane Country Club.
Mrs. Crutcher is survived by her husband of 45 years, Mack; three daughters, Leslie O’Brien of Alexandria, Va., Michele Martin and Carole Lantzm both of Spokane; and four grandchildren.
Harry Freeland Spokane
Memorial service for Harry W. Freeland, 90, was Monday at Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-North.
Mr. Freeland, a lifetime Spokane resident, died Friday.
He graduated from Hillyard High School and worked as a meter clerk for Spokane Gas Company and later for Washington Water Power. He retired in 1972.
He was a member of the Washington Water Power Trailblazers.
Survivors include his wife of 68 years, Josephine; two sons, Dwain Freeland of Spirit Lake, Idaho, and Carl Freeland of Port Orchard, Wash.; six grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Schatz, who was born in Latah, Wash., died Friday.
She graduated from North Central High School and attended Kinman Business College. In 1940 she married Eugene Schatz.
She had worked as a bookkeeper/secretary for John L. Harvey Co., for 20 years and retired in 1980.
Mrs. Shatz was a member of Fowler United Methodist Church.
She is survived by a daughter, Linda Moyer of Creston, Wash.; a son, Rich Schatz of Loon Lake, Wash.; and six grandchildren.

Mr. McKenney, who was born in Oklahoma, died Friday.
He had lived in Spokane for 68 years and worked as a barber.
He was a member of the Spokane and Spokane Valley Camera Clubs.
He was preceded in death by two wives, Olive and Dorothy.
Mr. McKenney is survived by a son, Richard McKenney of Spokane; a stepdaughter, Betty O’Donnell of Newman Lake; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Mr. Ford died Thursday in a motorcycle accident in the Spokane Valley.
He was born in Spokane and worked as a mechanic for Tandem Truck Sales, Inc., for nine years.
He is survived by his father and stepmother, Richard and Donna Ford of Spokane; his mother, Judy Martinson of Center Point, Ore.; his companion, Elizabeth Pauley of Spokane; a daughter, Aleasha Ford of Spokane; three sisters, Dr. Teresa Ford of Puyallup, Wash., and Charlene and Christine Ford, both of Spokane; a brother, Richard Ford Jr. of Greenacres; and his grandparents, Arthur and Charlotte Cline.
Earl Johnson Spokane

Mr. Johnson, who was born in Conkling Park, Idaho, died Wednesday.
He was a 33-year Spokane resident and was a member of Loma Vista Baptist Church.
