Sprint Winner Apologizes

Compiled From Wire Services

Donovan Bailey apologized for calling rival Michael Johnson a coward and a chicken after beating him in a 150-meter match race.

Johnson, the 200-meter world-record holder, pulled up lame halfway through the One on One Challenge of Champions on Sunday at SkyDome. Bailey then criticized the American, all but accusing him of faking the injury.

Johnson suffered a severe pull of the left quadriceps, according to the sports management agency that represents him.

It is questionable whether he would be able to participate in the national track and field championships next week.
