Shabazz Receives Additional Skin Graft

Associated Press

Betty Shabazz was back in the operating room Thursday for the second of what will be a series of skin-grafting procedures to save her life.

The widow of Malcolm X remained listed as extremely critical, a condition her doctor says is unlikely to improve for weeks.

Shabazz suffered third-degree burns over 80 percent of her body in a fire allegedly set by her 12-year-old grandson at her home in Yonkers on Sunday.

Twenty percent of the burned skin was cleared surgically.
