1712: Pennsylvania passed a law preventing the importation of slaves into the colony. The law was overturned by the king of England.

In 1769: Frontiersman Daniel Boone began to explore the present-day Kentucky.

In 1776: Richard Henry Lee of Virginia proposed to the Continental Congress a resolution calling for a Declaration of Independence.

In 1955: The “$64,000 Question” premiered. In 1958 the show was canceled amid an investigation into rigged quiz shows.

In 1981: Israeli military planes destroyed a nuclear power plant in Iraq.
