Braves’ Home A Modern Wonder
Turner Field is no ordinary baseball diamond. It’s a high-tech wonder with a new breed of grass, computerized moisture controls and miles of underground pipes.
Computerized moisture controls allow Atlanta Braves field director Ed Mangan to water the grass from above or below and to drain off water so quickly that the field is ready for play as soon as the tarp can be removed after a storm.
The field has a prescription athletic turf system supplied by The Motz Group of Cincinnati. On top, Mangan worries over 120,000 square feet of hybrid Bermuda grass from Greg Norman Turf Farms in Florida.
Water percolates down to the barrier 13-1/2 inches below the surface. Under the barrier is a network of drainpipes.
