Non-Profit Groups Receive Gte Grants

General Telephone Electric recently awarded grants to local non-profit organizations as part of the annual corporate giving program:

Cindy Pearcy, of The Women’s Center and Phil Langheid, of the Civil Air Patrol, won grants for their organizations through the Volunteer Initiative Program (VIP); Gonzaga University, $15,000 to extend its “Excellence Through Linkages” technology program to the Coeur d’Alene Tribe; Bonner County School District, $10,000 to set up an electronic network based at Sandpoint Middle School which will then be connected to the district office to provide Internet access; The North Idaho Vocational Education Cooperative, $10,000 to develop an on-line catalog of student-products and services as part of the School to Work initiative in the Kellogg, Wallace and Mullan school districts; United Way of Kootenai County, $6,700 for annual operating expenses; Employees Combined Humanitarian Organization (ECHO) of Sandpoint, was awarded $3,000; and Children’s Village in Coeur d’Alene received $3,500 toward housing.

Idaho Youth Ranch was awarded $2,500 for project of Anchor House; the Bonner County Homeless Task Force, $2,500 for child care and preschool programs; The Jack Straw Foundation, $1,500 for the Mythweaver Tribal Radio Project; and Panida Theater in Sandpoint gained $1,000 for an aisle lighting project.

Benewah: Greater St. Joe Development Foundation; St. Maries Community Food Bank.

Bonner: Bonner Community Food Center, Employees Combined Humanitarian Organization, and Friends of East Bonner County Library.

Kootenai: ABC Food Bank, Carrousel Players, and First Judicial District CASA Program.

Grants were paid out of G.T.E. company profits and do not affect telephone rates.
