Pac-10 Claims 14 Ncaa Championships
The Pacific-10 Conference schools won 14 NCAA team titles over the past year, marking the most successful athletic campaign in intercollegiate history.
The 14 championships in 1996-97 eclipsed the single-conference best of 10 titles, accomplished by the Pac-10 in 1987-88.
Seven different Pac-10 schools won at least one NCAA championship.
Stanford won the most, claiming six titles. The Cardinal have won at least one NCAA championship every year since 1977.
The championships were in eight women’s and six men’s sports and increased the Pac-10’s all-time total to 282, also a high. The Big Ten is second with 159 titles. Pac-10 teams also captured three unofficial national titles.
