Foreigners Leave Republic Of Congo
A U.S. Air Force C-130 plane evacuated 54 foreigners, including 30 Americans, from the Republic of Congo on Tuesday, Pentagon officials said.
The plane had gone in with about a dozen communication and security specialists from U.S. European Command to assess dangers faced by Americans remaining in Brazzaville, the capital city, amid renewed militia fighting, spokesman Ken Bacon said.
“It’s become quite dangerous,” he said.
Later, spokesman Army Lt. Col. Nancy Burt said the C-130 had taken out 30 Americans and 24 other foreigners. They were taken to Libreville, Gabon, she said, adding that another 64 Americans were still in Brazzaville and might want out.
