Oriard Resigns As WSU Aide
Lisa Oriard, assistant women’s basketball coach at Washington State University, has resigned.
The former University of Washington forward from Spokane, a two-time All-Pacific-10 Conference player, coached under Harold Rhodes at WSU for three years.
Oriard, 31, coached the post players, coordinated the team’s conditioning and assisted with recruiting and coordinated scouting activities.
“I feel it’s time for a change,” Oriard said.
Prior to joining the Cougars staff, Oriard was head coach at Whitworth College for three years after serving as the Pirates’ assistant coach. She also was an assistant coach at Boise State during the 1990-91 season.
Sandpoint hires coach
Tyler Haynes, son of longtime coach Don Haynes, who has ties to Spokane and North Idaho, has been named boys basketball coach at Sandpoint High. It will be his first head coaching job.
Haynes played for his father at Coeur d’Alene High in 1988-89. Following graduation, he assisted under his father there. After his father retired, Haynes continued as an assistant under Jim Winger.
CdA coach resigns
Sheila Sharp has resigned as head girls basketball coach at Coeur d’Alene High School. Sharp’s record in three years was 14-50.
Bailey signs with NIC
Nathaniel Bailey, a point guard who led Odessa (Texas) College to the NJCAA men’s basketball tournament last season, has signed a letter of intent to play for North Idaho College, coach Hugh Watson said.
