Trade Jitters Depress Dollar Vs. Yen
The dollar ended mostly higher Tuesday on eased concern about a euro delay, but it fell for the fourth day against the yen after the top U.S. trade envoy partly blamed Japan’s surplus on a weak Japanese currency.
The remarks by U.S. Trade Representative Charlene Barshefsky came on the eve of a monthly trade report from the Japanese government that is expected to show Japan’s surplus doubled in April vs. a year earlier to 1.2 trillion yen.
Over four days the dollar has lost 4 yen or 3.4 percent vs. the Japanese currency.
