Pete Sampras’ struggles continued when he was ousted by Sweden’s Jonas Bjorkman 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 in the quarterfinals of the Queen’s Club tournament in London.

It was the latest in a string of surprising defeats for Sampras, who has had difficulties most of the year since winning the Australian Open in January.

A judge in Ann Arbor, Mich., ruled that the University of Michigan must release a letter that reprimanded men’s basketball coach Steve Fisher for his handling of several incidents involving a booster.

In a written opinion released Friday, Washtenaw County Circuit Court Judge David S. Swartz rejected the university’s argument that releasing the document would be an invasion of Fisher’s privacy.

Also, Fisher dismissed guard Brandun Hughes from the team for failing “to maintain the necessary commitments to both academics and the basketball program.”

New Florida State women’s basketball coach Sue Semrau said she will use Florida talent and an up-tempo style to energize the Seminoles program.

Semrau, 34, was a top assistant and recruiting coordinator at Wisconsin for the past three seasons.

Dariusz Michalczewski, a Polish-born German, pounded out a unanimous decision over Virgil Hill in Duesseldorf, Germany, to become the first man in history to hold three light heavyweight titles.
