Oregon Basketball Stars Top Washington

Brianne Meharry scored 24 points and had nine rebounds Sunday to lead Oregon’s all-star high school girls team to a 74-61 win over the Washington all-stars in the Northwest Shootout.

Meharry scored her team’s first eight points in the first game of the regionally televised doubleheader. She added five more in a 17-0 run midway through the first half as Oregon built a 28-8 lead with 4:25 left in the half.

Spokane area representatives Tricia Lamb of St.John-Endicott and Crystal Lee of Central Valley scored seven and eight points respectively for Washington.

Boys

Daniel Carter, a 6-foot-6 forward from North Medford, scored 18 points, 14 of them in the second half, to lead Oregon to a 101-84 win over Washington in the boys game in the Northwest Shootout.

Baseball

Brandon Muzatko drove in three runs as the North Stars pounded out a 14-12 AAA American Legion victory over the Royals.

Kurtis Broders had three hits, one of them a home run, for the Royals.
