Stingley’s Son Injured
Derek Stingley, the son of paralyzed former NFL star Darryl Stingley, escaped serious injury after being hit in the chest during an Arena Football League game at Albany, N.Y.
Stingley, 26, a defensive back for the Albany Firebirds, was down on the field for more than 10 minutes Saturday night after the collision with New York’s Thomas Orr on a kickoff return.
Stingley suffered a concussion.
Darryl Stingley was paralyzed during a 1978 exhibition game against Oakland when the New England receiver was hit by Jack Tatum.
The Rhein Fire defeated the London Monarchs 10-7 in a World League football game. The Fire (7-3) went ahead to stay when former Denver Bronco Derrick Clark ran for his ninth touchdown.
The Fire goes to Barcelona next Sunday to face the host team, the Dragons, for the title.
