Death Threats Force Singer To Cancel Plans

Compiled From Wire Services

In response to death threats, Sinead O’Connor canceled on Monday a Jerusalem concert which was to have promoted the city as a capital for both Israelis and Palestinians.

A Jewish extremist bragged that he and his supporters had prompted the Irish singer to drop out, but he stopped short of saying he had made the threats.

“Due to us, she is not arriving,” Itamar Ben-Gvir of the Ideological Front, an offshoot of the outlawed anti-Arab Kach movement, told Israel radio.

O’Connor’s concert Saturday was to have been the highlight of a series of events under the slogan “Sharing Jerusalem: Two Capitals for Two States.” The events have been organized by Israeli and Palestinian women’s groups.

“I cannot put in danger the lives of my two children, my musicians and my technicians, so I have decided to cancel this concert,” O’Connor said in a statement.
