Still No Communication Between Kemp, Sonics

Tacoma News Tribune

It’s been almost two weeks since Shawn Kemp told the world he wants out of Seattle.

But he still hasn’t said it face-to-face to anyone in the SuperSonics organization.

Team president and general manager Wally Walker released a statement Monday saying the team has yet to talk to Kemp, who saidJune 5 he will never again play for the Sonics.

“To date, Shawn has not sat down with us to discuss his reported frustrations and future as a Seattle SuperSonic,” Walker said in the statement. “We have sought and will continue to seek direct communication with Shawn. Despite his recent statements, Shawn Kemp is a Seattle Sonic and we stand behind him as we have for the past eight years.”

The four paragraph statement also said the Sonics “have always valued Shawn Kemp” and the team has “the patience and commitment to our fans and to this community to achieve a successful outcome for the team.”

With the NBA draft set for June 25, however, trade rumors are circulating. But it’s unlikely any trade for Kemp would take place before then unless it involved draft choices.
