Woods Moves Up To No. 1 In World
Tiger Woods completed his meteoric rise in the World Rankings on Monday, passing Greg Norman to become the youngest player to hold the top spot in the 11-year history of the golf rankings.
Woods, 21, tied for 19th in the U.S. Open to move ahead of Norman.
Woods has 9.91 points in the rankings, followed by Norman (9.78), Colin Montgomerie (9.61), Ernie Els (9.31) and Nick Price (9.24).
Claiming a medal commemorating Tiger Woods’ record Masters victory is an unauthorized use of his image, the golfer’s representatives filed a federal suit in Los Angeles against the Franklin Mint.
Woods’ lawyers asked for a jury trial and requested a preliminary injunction to stop the mint from “pirating Tiger Woods’ name and likeness.”
The suit claims the mint produced the medal after the International Management Group, Woods’ management group, rejected the bid of Franklin Mint’s parent company to reach a product licensing agreement.
