Ten years ago: Charles Glass, a journalist on leave from ABC News, was kidnapped in Lebanon. (Glass escaped his captors the following August.)

Five years ago: The Supreme Court ruled criminal defendants may not use race as a basis for excluding potential jurors from their trials.

One year ago: Federal prosecutors in California charged Theodore Kaczynski in four of the Unabomber attacks. Richard Allen Davis was convicted in San Jose, Calif., of the 1993 kidnapping and murder of 12-year-old Polly Klaas of Petaluma, Calif. Two Army transport helicopters collided and crashed during training exercises near Fort Campbell, Ky., killing six and injuring 33.
