Dear Heloise: Here’s another variation for overhead lights that are turned on by a pull chain.

When our daughter was 4 years old, we rented an apartment that had the light in her room turned on by a pull chain in the middle of the room. I attached a very long string to the chain and put a 1-inch jingle bell on the end. She just walked into the room with her arms wide open and could always find the light cord quickly and easily.
