Clarence ‘Nance’ Bauer Ritzville, Wash.

Visitation for Clarence “Nance” Bauer, 85, is scheduled for 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. today at the Danekas Funeral Home in Ritzville. Service will be at 1 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Private vault burial will precede the service at the Ritzville Memorial Cemetery.

Mr. Bauer, a lifetime Ritzville resident, died Monday.

He graduated from Ritzville High School and attended Washington State University, where he was a member of the Theta Chi Fraternity.

Mr. Bauer worked as a salesman for the Ritzville Trading Company, later becoming the store manager in the implement department.

In 1936 he married Geraldine “Gerry” Pence in Ritzville and in 1947 they moved to the Bauer farm west of Ritzville, where they farmed for 25 years. They retired in 1972 and moved into Ritzville.

Mr. Bauer was a member of the Ritzville Trinity United Methodist Church, Independent Order of Odd Fellows, Eagles Lodge, Ritzville Gun Club and the Bronco Boosters.

He is survived by his wife; a son, Michael Bauer of Ritzville; two daughters, Connie Jo Cooper of Yakima, and Pamela Van Winkle of Monitor, Wash.; a brother, Albert Bauer of Ritzville; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to East Adams Rural Health Care Foundation or the Life Care Center in Ritzville.

Dennis Miller Spokane

Visitation for Dennis H. Miller, 58, will be from 3 to 8 p.m. today at Thornhill Valley Funeral Home. Service is planned for 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Pines Cemetery.

Mr. Miller died Monday.

He was born in Desmet, Idaho, and had lived in Spokane for 51 years.

He graduated from Gonzaga Prep School and attended Whitworth College.

Mr. Miller served in the Navy as a corpsman in the Balboa Hospital in San Diego, and later worked as a longhaul truck driver for Welk Brothers Metal Products and Jafco Trucking for more than 20 years. He retired in 1993.

He is survived by a daughter, Denise Dobsloff of Vernon, British Columbia; a son, DeWayne Miller of Coeur d’Alene; his parents, Robert and Milada Miller of Spokane; two brothers, Lani Miller of Hayden, Idaho, and Frank Miller of Dallas; and two grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.

Frances Fischer Spokane

Funeral Mass for Frances M. Fischer, 87, will be at 9:30 a.m. today at St. Charles Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery. Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Fischer, who died Monday, was born in Dickinson, N.D.

She was a 62-year Spokane resident and a homemaker.

She was a member of St. Charles Parish and Altar Society.

Her husband of 56 years, Joseph Fischer, died in 1987.

Mrs. Fischer is survived by three daughters, Bonnie Haugen, Sister Deborah Ann Fischer and Vivian Fischer, all of Spokane; two sisters, Barbara Selinger and Betty Fitterer, both of Dickinson; and four grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Holy Family Hospital Cancer Unit.

Alice Slater Spokane

Memorial service and wake for Alice (Butler) Slater, 70, will be at 4 p.m. Saturday at the Valley Veterans of Foreign War Post No. 1435. The Cremation Society of Washington is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Slater, who was born in Cottonwood, Idaho, died June 1.

She graduated from Cottonwood High School and later moved to Merced, Calif.

She returned to Idaho and was a business owner in Coeur d’Alene, Pinecreek, and Osburn. In 1977 she retired and moved to Spokane.

Mrs. Slater is survived by four children, Rock Nelson, Dawn Rosa, Sherry Shaver and Dena Slater-Florence all of Spokane; a brother, Sam Butler of Spokane; three former husbands, Bill Nelson, Howard Slater and Bill Songsteng; 11 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Giovanni ‘John’ Cozzetto Spokane

Vigil service for Giovanni Battiste “John” Cozzetto, 62, will be at 5:15 p.m. Sunday at Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home. Funeral Mass is planned for 1 p.m. Monday at St. Aloysius Church. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery.

Mr. Cozzetto, a lifetime Spokane resident, died Monday.

He graduated from North Central High School and received an applied science degree at Spokane Community College.

He served in the Air National Guard and in 1954 enlisted in the Marine Corps. He served in Korea.

Mr. Cozzetto helped organize the World War II Memorial that is displayed at North Central High School.

He was a member of St. Aloysius Parish, Elks Club, Moose Lodge, Knights of Columbus, Baseball Umpires Association, and the Football Referee Association.

His wife of 33 years, Glenna Cozzetto, died in 1994.

He is survived by a sister, Elynore Jury; a daughter, Cynthia Westover of Spokane; two sons, Vernon Zielinski of Spokane and Kelly Zielinski of Kennewick; numerous grandchildren and a great-grandson.

Alice Cannon Spokane

Graveside service for Alice Juanita Cannon, 84, will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the Newport (Wash.) Cemetery. A gathering will follow in Spokane at the home of her daughter, Darlene Lorenzen. Sherman-Knapp Funeral Home in Newport is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Cannon, who was born in Newport, died Monday.

She graduated from Usk (Wash.) High School and Kinman Business College.

In 1934 she married Rolland Cannon in Spokane. He died last year.

Mrs. Cannon was a homemaker and a member of the Diamond Senior Bowling League, serving as the secretary/treasurer for 12 years.

In 1943 she moved to Spokane from Newport.

Mrs. Cannon is survived by two daughters, Darlene Lorenzen and Beverly Blundon, both of Spokane; a sister, Lois Roy of Puyallup, Wash.; a brother, Harley McLaughlin of Seven Bays, Wash.; nine grandchildren, two stepgrandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and six stepgreat-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Alzheimer’s Foundation.

Pearl Jones McMinnville, Ore.

Service for Pearl Ruth Jones, 88, will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the First Baptist Church in Colfax, Wash. Burial will be at the Pines Cemetery in Opportunity. Macy and Son Funeral Home in McMinnville, is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Jones, who was born in Opportunity, died June 10.

In 1929 she married Reginald Jones in Opportunity and they made their home in the Spokane Valley.

In 1941 they moved to Colfax and she worked as a docent at the Perkins House for many years. Her husband died in 1973.

Mrs. Jones was a member of Aloha Club, Athenaeum Club, First Baptist Church and the Whitman County Historical Society.

She moved to McMinnville in 1996.

Mrs. Jones is survived by a son, Larry Jones of Colfax; a daughter, Betty Stirling of McMinnville; a sister, Edith Moriarty of Diamond Lake, Wash., seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church in Colfax, or the Whitman County Historical Society.

Frank Johnson Spokane

Memorial service for Frank V. Johnson, 81, is planned for 11 a.m. Sunday at Hillyard Baptist Church. Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

A lifetime Spokane resident, Mr. Johnson, died Tuesday.

He attended Hillyard High School and was a member of Rogers High School’s first graduating class.

He received a bachelor’s degree in education and later a master’s degree in education from Eastern Washington College.

Mr. Johnson served in the Army Air Corps during World War II in the European Theater.

He was a teacher and principal for School District 81, retiring in the 1970s.

Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Marjorie; a son, Larry, and a daughter, Carol.

Roy Hamm Spokane

Graveside service for Roy Hamm, 86, will be at 2 p.m. today at the Independent Order of Odd Fellows Evergreen Cemetery in Rosalia, Wash. Schanzenbach Funeral Home in Rosalia is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Hamm, who was born in Redfield, Kan., died Monday.

He was a longtime resident of Rosalia and had worked as an electrician.

Mr. Hamm was a member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows Lodge and served on the I.O.O.F. Evergreen Cemetery Board for many years.

His wife, Leah, died in 1990.

Survivors include a stepdaughter, Eunice Rea of Tacoma.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Ava Clark Spokane

Service for Ava F. Clark, 93, will be at 1 p.m. today at Bethlehem Evangelical Lutheran Church. Burial will be at Riverside Memorial Park. Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Clark, who was born in Fertile, Minn., died Monday.

She worked as a buyer for the Crescent and the Bon Marche for many years.

A 75-year Spokane resident, Mrs. Clark was a member of Bethlehem Evangelical Lutheran Church.

Her husband, Lloyd, died in 1961.

Survivors include a daughter, Naomi Larsen of Portland; three grandchildren and eight great-grandsons.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Bethlehem Evangelical Lutheran Church.

Robert LeMay Coquille, Ore.

Service for Robert Henry LeMay, 49, was held June 4 at Fairview (Ore.) Community Church.

Mr. LeMay, who was born in West Warwick, R.I., died June 1.

He had lived in Chewelah, Wash., for 17 years and was a self-employed silversmith and diamond setter.

He married Shauna Cox in Coeur d’Alene in 1989 and they moved Coquille in 1991.

Mr. LeMay is survived by his wife; two sons, Matthew LeMay of Medford, Ore., and Gabriel LeMay of Yoncalla, Ore.; two daughters, Harmony Ratliff of Fayetteville, N.C., and Myra LeMay of Yoncalla; a sister, Nan Lamb of Yucaipa, Calif.; a brother, Rene LeMay of Yakima; and a half-brother, Pay Foy of Topsham, Maine.

Marjorie Childress Spokane

Visitation for Marjorie L. Childress, 71, is scheduled for 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday and for 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Heritage Funeral Home. Service will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home with burial to follow at Greenwood Memorial Terrace.

Mrs. Childress, who was born in Clarkston, Wash., died Monday.

She had lived in Spokane for 50 years and was a homemaker.

Survivors include three sons, Robert Cunningham of Alaska, and Thomas and Randy Cunningham, both of Spokane; a daughter, Patricia Newman of Spokane; two brothers, Paul Walk of Spokane and Marvin Walk of Clarkston; 11 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Beth Ann Kelly Spokane

Service for Beth Ann Kelly, 46, is planned for 2 p.m today at Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home. There will be private burial.

Mrs. Kelly, a lifetime Spokane resident, died Saturday.

She was a social worker for Spokane County and was a member of the Unitarian Universalist Church of Spokane, 3 B’s Literary Group and the Friends of the Library.

She is survived by a son, Edward Kelly of San Francisco; a daughter, Karen Sunderland of Billings, Mont.; three brothers, John and Robert Johnson, both of San Francisco, and David Johnson of Spokane; two sisters, Vicky Johnson of Oregon and Kathleen Newman of Fairbanks, Alaska; and one grandchild.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Whitworth Library.

Lillian Dickey Colfax, Wash.

Service for Lillian Dickey, 89, will be at 1 p.m. Friday at the Bruning Funeral Home in Colfax. Burial will follow at the Colfax Cemetery.

Mrs. Dickey, who was born in Earlgray, Saskatchewan, died Tuesday.

In 1943 she married Robert Dickey in New Westminster, British Columbia, and they made their home in Seattle.

She owned a women’s clothing store in Seattle and later owned Dickey’s women’s store in Colfax.

Mrs. Dickey was a member of the Plymouth Congregational Church.

Her husband, Robert, died in 1977.

Survivors include a brother, Cliff Jones of Vancouver, British Columbia.

Edith Heise Phoenix

Memorial service for Edith P. Heise, 80, will be at 10:30 a.m. Sunday at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Spokane. Shadow Mountain Mortuary in Phoenix is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Heise, who was born in Eugene, Ore., died Monday.

She had lived in Spokane for 45 years and worked as a part-time bookkeeper for Standard Asphalt and Paving Company.

In 1985 she moved from Spokane to Phoenix.

Her husband of 41 years, Ray, died in 1985.

Mrs. Heise is survived by a daughter, Phyllis Thomas of Phoenix; a sister, Helen Reed of Sun City, Ariz.; and two grandsons.
