Shadle Senior Receives Presidential Scholarship

Eric Hayden, a senior at Shadle Park High School, was awarded the Presidential Scholarship to Chapman University in Orange, Calif. He won the scholarship for his academic excellence. Eric was also awarded the President’s Award for Educational Excellence, Gold Honor Cord and the Washington State Honors Award.

He is the son of Steve and Cheryl Hayden of Spokane.

Lauren Hoernlein, a junior at Ferris High School, has been selected as a scholarship recipient from Washington state for the 1997 Japan-America Friendship Scholars Program. Only 120 students nationwide have received the $3,000 scholarship.

Lincoln Middle School students of the month for April were:

David Werner, son of Mike and Vivian Werner, sixth grade; Crissy Greenberg, daughter of Bob and Patty Greenberg, seventh grade; and Anna Clancy, daughter of Jon and Janet Clancy, eight grade.

They received a certificate, a student-designed T-shirt and $20, half of which is to be given to a cause of the student’s choice.

Lewis and Clark High School named Amy Howell and Brian Quirk Outstanding Senior Girl and Boy. They each received a savings bond to apply toward college expenses.

Marine Lance Cpl. Damon Elias, son of James Elias of Spokane, was promoted to his present rank while serving in Boise. He is a 1995 graduate of West Valley High School.

Marine Cpl. Rebecca Barce, daughter of James and Mary Barce of Deer Park, received a Meritorious Mast.

She was cited for outstanding service while assigned with Marine Aviation Logistics Squadron 29, 2nd Marine Aircraft Wing, in Jacksonville, N.C.
