Marcha Dillon Named State Star Performer

Marcha Dillon, Small Business Development Center education program manager for the Community Colleges of Spokane, has been named State Star Performer for 1997 by the Washington Small Business Development Centers.

She was recognized for her work in developing and offering classes for small businesses in the Spokane area.

The Washington State University College of Sciences presented achievement awards. The winners were:

Julia Plummer, Spokane, Distinguished Student Award; and Ralph Yount, professor of biochemistry/biophysics, Distinguished Achievement Award for Faculty.

Western Washington University graduates from winter quarter are:

Cheney: Jill Tibke, Bachelor of Science.

Moses Lake: Jacqueline Sweeney, Bachelor of Arts.

Pullman: Joshua Flenniken, B.A.

Spangle: Corrina McElfish, B.S.

Spokane: Tricia Bland, Jennifer Brown, Matthew Chandler, Eric Hall, Rebekah Lima, Aaron Pritchard, Regan Ward, B.A., and Carl Conrad, B.S.

Eric Fredrickson, a junior in the electrical engineering school at Seattle University, was named to the Tau Beta Pi Engineering Honor Society and the Alpha Sigma Nu Jesuit Honor Society. He is the son of Peter and Debby Fredrickson of Veradale.

Rana Jayne, a 1993 graduate of Central Valley High School, was inducted into the American Assembly of Collegiate Schools of Business Honorary, Beta Gamma Sigma, at Santa Clara University in California.

After graduation, she will be employed with Neiman Marcus Corp. in Dallas.

Barbara Kurtak of Chewelah, Wash., was named Volunteer of the Year by the Eastern Washington Long Term Care Ombudsman Program.

Cara Preuss of Mead was named an All-American Collegiate Scholar. She is a student at Washington State University and the daughter of Greg and Doreen Preuss of Mead.

The newly formed honor society for the Colville Center of the Community Colleges of Spokane installed new officers and new members. They are: Cheryl Riley, president; Lorraine Keller, vice president; Cherie Davidson, secretary; and Debra Wagner, treasurer.

New members are Cynthia Burgess, Jane Cordero, Sally DeSpain, Leah Enquist, Christopher Estelle, Breon Hancock, Donald Hyatt, Ellen Lee, Cheri Leng, Esther Mahaffey, Alexandra Matthews, Christopher McIlroy, Heather Miller, April Moon, Meadow Perry, DeeAnn Rickel, Michael Robinson, Angela Siegel, Karla Storer, Sheila Swofford, DeeDee Thompson, Sarah Thompson, Suzanne Timmer and Debra Wagner.

Zachary Allen, Spokane, has been named to the Dean’s List at Johnson and Wales University. He is a culinary arts major.

Ethan Verduin, the son of Neil and Phyllis Verduin of Spokane, is a recipient of a Dordt College Honors Scholarship. They are based on recognition of a student’s academic standing, ACT/SAT scores and extracurricular involvement. He is a senior at Northwest Christian High School.
