Rathdrum Woman Dies In Crash Near Spirit Lake

From Staff And Wire Reports

A 41-year-old Rathdrum woman was killed in a head-on collision Wednesday evening on State Highway 41 near Spirit Lake.

Debra L. Lindgren was a passenger in a Dodge Caravan driven by Donald Wolfe, 19, also of Rathdrum.

Wolfe was driving south on the highway at about 7:30 p.m. when his van collided with a pickup driven by Nicholas J. Murrell, 19, of Coeur d’Alene.

Murrell was driving north and crossed over the center line into the southbound lane, according to the Idaho State Police.

Wolfe tried to avoid a collision by crossing into the northbound lane, but Murrell went back into the northbound lane, too. The two vehicles then struck head-on, police said.

Police don’t consider alcohol to be a factor in the accident, and did not issue any citations. Lindgren was wearing her seat belt and died at the scene.

Wolfe and Murrell were taken to Kootenai Medical Center. Wolfe was listed in fair condition Thursday and Murrell was in critical condition, according to KMC.
