In 1893: A jury in New Bedford, Mass., found Lizzie Borden innocent of the ax murders dof her father and stepmother.

In 1947: Benjamin “Bugsy” Siegel was killed in Beverly Hills, Calif., by mob associates angered over the soaring costs of Siegel’s the Flamingo resort in Las Vegas, Nev.

In 1967: Boxer Muhammad Ali was convicted of violating Selective Service laws by refusing to be drafted. (Ali’s conviction was overturned by the Supreme Court).
