Younger Boone Booted In Debut
Aaron Boone drove in the go-ahead run, but then was ejected from his major league debut Friday night as the visiting Cincinnati Reds beat the St. Louis Cardinals 4-2.
Boone was recalled earlier in the day from Triple-A Indianapolis to fill his older brother Bret’s spot on the roster after Bret was sent down to the same farm team.
Aaron Boone singled and had a steal in three atbats, but was ejected in the sixth inning by home-plate umpire Gary Darling for throwing his helmet after being tagged out on a close play at the plate.

After Mark Smith’s two-out single in the ninth, John Franco came in and threw a wild pitch, then retired Jose Guillen on a groundout for his 18th save in 21 chances.

Karim Garcia hit his first major-league homer for the Dodgers. Barry Bonds homered twice, sending the game into extra innings with a two-out homer in the ninth.

Archi Cianfrocco hit a go-ahead double in a three-run eighth inning to end San Diego’s five-game losing streak.
Larry Walker went 1 for 3 as his average dropped to .415. He got his 1,000th career hit with a fourth-inning single.
Astros 7, Cubs 3 Houston
Luis Gonzalez tied a Houston record by extending his hitting streak to 23 games, and Derek Bell and Jeff Bagwell homered.
Gonzalez has the longest hitting streak in the N.L. this season.
Marlins 2, Expos 1 Montreal
Alex Fernandez pitched a three-hitter to outduel Pedro Martinez.
Fernandez (7-6) retired the final 16 in pitching his third complete game this season. Florida outfielder Moises Alou made his first start against the Expos since leaving the club as a free agent and was booed each time he came up.

Tom Glavine pitched a seven-hitter and Andruw Jones hit a two-run double as Atlanta sent Philadelphia to its 16th loss in 19 games.
