McGill will be missed

Rogers High School is losing a great man. After six years of coaching and teaching at Rogers, Doug McGill is leaving Hillyard and headed to Deer Park, where he will be the varsity football coach.

McGill was the JV coach at Rogers for the past six years and was very successful year in and year out. Each week key players from his team would be pulled up to play on varsity, and Coach McGill would somehow continue to win and stay in the running for the JV title. Whether he had to turn a lineman into a quarterback or a halfback into a nose tackle, Coach McGill was able to do so and keep on winning.

McGill is an inspirational coach. Whenever a player made a bad play or a good play, McGill was there to pat you on the back and encourage you to “work your magic.” Besides being a great football coach, McGill was involved in many other school activities at Rogers, and had time to know the importance of being a good Sega player. Deer Park is fortunate to have Doug McGill be a part of their school and football program. But remember Coach, you were first a Pirate. We all wish you good luck and are waiting for you to “work your magic”. Mike Schock Spokane

Say it again.

Stockton to Malone, Stockton to Malone, Stockton to Malone. About four years ago I said that John Stockton will never win a NBA championship.

Mr. Stockton and Mr. Malone are very good basketball players but they are not “great” players. When Games 5 and 6 of the NBA Finals were on the line I did not see a great pass or great foul shooting. That’s what it takes to be a champion.

This year there is no excuse! The supporting cast of players with the Jazz was good enough to win the championship. The two “supposedly” greatest players of all time at their positions did not come through. Enough said! P.S. Sorry Spokane. Louis Alling Warden, Wash.
