Ramirez Powers Indians Past Yanks
American League
Manny Ramirez led a rejuvenated Cleveland offense with four hits, including a grand slam and career-high six RBIs as the Indians defeated the Yankees 13-4 Saturday, ending New York’s seven-game winning streak at Jacobs Field.
The Indians totaled 15 hits to beat New York in Cleveland for the first time since September 1995. The Yankees dropped to 13-3 at Jacobs Field but are still the only visiting team there with a winning record.
Sandy Alomar extended his hitting streak to 20 games with an RBI single in the seventh.
White Sox 5, Twins 3 Chicago
James Baldwin, Tony Castillo and Roberto Hernandez combined on a five-hitter as Chicago defeated Minnesota.
Baldwin (4-8), who already has lost two more games than he did during his 1996 rookie season, allowed four hits in 6-1/3 innings.
Orioles 5, Blue Jays 1 Toronto
B.J. Surhoff’s two-out, bases-loaded single in the eighth broke Baltimore’s string of 25 consecutive scoreless innings and sparked the Orioles to a victory over Toronto.
Mike Bordick greeted reliever Dan Plesac (0-3) with a leadoff single and Brady Anderson followed with a double. Plesac then struck out Roberto Alomar and Rafael Palmeiro and walked Cal Ripken intentionally to load the bases. Surhoff followed with a single between first and second for a 2-1 lead.
Scott Erickson (10-2) gave up one run on six hits over 7-1/3 innings.
Roger Clemens, who lowered his A.L.-leading ERA to 1.90, gave up four hits over seven innings.
Tigers 15, Red Sox 4 Detroit
Tony Clark homered and drove in a career-high five runs, leading Detroit past Boston.
Boston backup infielder Mike Benjamin pitched a perfect eighth inning. He was the only one of five Red Sox pitchers to retire the Tigers in order.
Damion Easley and Travis Fryman hit consecutive homers in a five-run second inning. The Tigers broke open the game with four runs in the sixth.
Angels 5, Athletics 3 Anaheim, Calif.
Tony Phillips struck out with two outs in the seventh inning but reached on an error, then scored the go-ahead run on Dave Hollins’ double as Anaheim beat Oakland.
Jason Giambi went 2 for 4 and extended his hitting streak to 24 games, tying the Oakland record set by Carney Lansford in 1984.

Thomas set to return
Frank Thomas has had enough sitting and watching from the dugout.

batting leader, who expects to come off the disabled list and play today for the Chicago White Sox.
Thomas, who is leading the league with a .391 batting average, has been out since straining an abdominal muscle June 6.
