Radja Trade May Collapse
The deal that sent Dino Radja from Boston to Philadelphia could be nullified if he refuses to report to the 76ers for a physical, Celtics coach Rick Pitino said.
And Radja would face “very severe” penalties, Pitino said.
Radja was traded to the 76ers on Friday for Clarence Weatherspoon and Michael Cage, who were in Boston on Monday for a medical examination that is routine for any trade.
Houston Rockets coach Rudy Tomjanovich could get a raise that would make his salary comparable with those of other top-paid National Basketball Association coaches.
Tomjanovich, the Rockets’ coach since February 1992, has three years remaining on his five-year contract that pays him about $1.3 million a season. A new contract that Rockets owner Leslie Alexander is working on would run through 2000-2001 and could pay Tomjanovich between $4 million and $5 million a season, according to a report published in the Houston Chronicle.
The Minnesota Timberwolves received the 20th pick in the first round of Wednesday’s NBA draft from Portland to complete last year’s trade that sent Isaiah Rider to the Trail Blazers.
Portland had the option to surrender one of its two first-round choices this year or its 1998 first-round pick.
