Irvin Plot Thickens
The former Dallas police officer who pleaded guilty to a charge that he tried to have Cowboys wide receiver Michael Irvin killed is making a pitch to get out of prison early.
A Dallas TV station reported the Texas Board of Pardons and Paroles will review the case of former officer Johnny Hernandez to determine if his claim of entrapment has enough validity to qualify him for an early prison release.
The Denver native was sentenced last August to two six-year prison terms after he pleaded guilty to solicitation of capital murder and an unrelated bribery charge.
Hernandez was accused of trying to hire a hit man to kill Irvin because he believed the football player had threatened his girlfriend.
Harris County commissioners unanimously accepted $3.5 million from the Houston Oilers, who now are almost free to move to Tennessee.
The payment lets the Oilers escape their Astrodome lease a year early. Now, only the city of Houston’s approval is needed.
