Blue Devils Climb To Top With Four Consecutive Easy Wins
Four successive easy wins moved the Blue Devils to the top of the AAA American Legion baseball league.
The Blue Devils, a team made up of players from five schools - North Central, Lakeside, Deer Park, Shadle Park and Chewelah (Wash.) - outscored its opposition 62-16 to take a game lead over the Cannons and Bandits.
The team is currently playing in Trail, B.C., after improving its league record to 6-2.
Lakeside pitcher George Petticrew had a particularly impressive week, winning twice. Petticrew the batter had eight hits in three games, including a home run and six doubles.
Also during league games last week, three other players hit safely in all four games.
Eric Hayden (Shadle), who also pitched a win, finished with eight hits, including three during a 13-1 win over the Royals.
Brian Coe (Lakeside), and Ryan Corigliano (NC) had three two-hit games each and finished with seven base hits, including home runs against the Royals.
Shadle Park’s AA and A American Legion baseball teams through Tuesday had a combined record of 17-1 to lead or challenge for the lead of their respective divisions.
Eagle Hardware/Pepsi in the AA South was second with an 8-1 record after beating LC Boosters twice and Future Shop from East Valley 7-4 last week.
In the A League, Tony Roma was unbeaten after nine games in the South, including wins last week over nearest challengers Spokane Insulation and Carsten’s Marine, Tony Roma plays at once-beaten Ferris Friday night at 6 p.m.
Eagle won four times last week, including a 1-0 thriller over Future Shop. The team hosts Strike Zone in a rematch at 8 p.m. and travels to Clarkston, Wash., against leagueleading PAC next Wednesday.
In the AA North, B&C Telephone/ Dix from Lakeside continues to chase the Panorama Twins for first place.
The team hosts third-place Mead next Wednesday.
