Friday Speed Holds Up In Hydros
No one came close Saturday to the remarkable speed that defending national champion Dave Villwock turned Friday night in early qualifying for the Thunder on the Ohio hydroplane races.
Not even Villwock.
Aboard the newest Miss Budweiser hull, Villwock roared around the 2-mile oval at 163.934 mph Friday night. Earlier, the team suffered with a loose lug nut that caused fuel-flow problems and limited their speed to near 148 mph.
Villwock’s speed Friday night nearly matched the 1993 world record at Evansville of 165.975 mph set by another driver in another Miss Budweiser hull.
