Man Stabbed, 3 Others Hurt In Attack
A Spokane man was stabbed twice in the back late Friday when he and three others were attacked in a parking lot near the Minnehaha climbing rocks, police said.
Eight attackers used knives and a chain and also brandished a handgun, which wasn’t fired. The four victims had gone swimming earlier and were in the parking lot about 11:45 p.m., according to police.
A man emerged from the woods and said, “It’s my birthday, I want to have some fun.”
He then yelled something in a foreign language as seven other men came out of the woods. Witnesses told police the attackers were in their late teens or early 20s and smelled of liquor.
The man who provoked the fight slashed at one of the victims, twice tearing open his back, police said.
“It was like an ‘X,’ from one shoulder blade to the other shoulder blade,” said the 21-year-old man’s sister, who didn’t want her or her brother’s name used. “It’s just horrible.”
The woman, who feared retribution, said one attacker took a chain and whipped it across her brother’s cheek. They also smacked another victim across the eyes with it.
According to a Deaconess Medical Center nurse, the stabbing victim was in stable condition Saturday.
The remaining two victims got into their car and drove away, even though the attackers had slashed the tires and kicked out the windshield.
“As they’re driving away … they’re still beating up on the car,” the sister said.
Police did not release the victims’ names.
The attackers eventually drove away in a four-door, gold or silver Honda Accord with a spoiler.
