Teen Jailed For Shooting Gun Outside Mall

Associated Press

A teenager who was in a car involved in a fatal drive-by shooting at a high school three years ago has been sentenced to six years for firing a gun outside a shopping mall in January.

The sentence ordered Thursday by Snohomish County Superior Court Judge Gerald Knight for Lucas Morinobu Gosho, 19, of Shoreline, was nearly twice the standard under state sentencing guidelines.

Gosho was convicted of first-degree reckless endangerment last month. Testimony indicated he fired six to 10 shots toward the food court entrance to the Alderwood Mall in Lynnwood as he and a friend, Michael Marckx, were fleeing after a confrontation with some rivals Jan. 3. No one was hurt, and the lowest bullet that entered the mall was about 16 feet above the ground.

Marckx and Gosho were passengers in a car from which a friend fired shots at some students outside Ballard High School in Seattle, killing Melissa Fernandes, 16, on March 23, 1994.

Gosho testified that he opened fire at the mall because he thought one of the people with whom he had been arguing was reaching for a gun.
