Hints From Heloise

King Features Syndicate

Dear Heloise: To avoid burns while cooking, when removing a pan from a hot burner, replace it with a teakettle containing water. The hot burner is no longer exposed and, in dry climates, moisture is put into the air. Diane Deschamp, Spokane.

Dear Heloise: I don’t always use my dishwasher, so after I wash the dishes in the sink, I turn the garbage disposal on while the soapy water drains out.

I seldom have an odor problem and never have a buildup of residue under the rubber flapper. The entire unit stays clean. - Betty Maxwell, Carlisle, Pa.
