Those Booty Queen Days Are Behind Her

Compiled By Staff Writer Rick Bo

Lena Horne may turn 80 today, but she’s taking it in stride.

“I’m taking it with a grain of salt,” the legendary “Stormy Weather” singer said from her Manhattan home. “I think you just have to look in the mirror and say, ‘Look, this morning I got a few more wrinkles and there ain’t too much I can do about that.”’ At this point, she has no plans for retirement.

“It’s a job,” Horne said. “I still owe Blue Note one more album, so I’ll probably be performing next month.”

But she admits that her advanced age makes choosing material a bit trickier.

“I don’t feel great about it, but it’s difficult to find the kind of songs that an old lady like me should be singing at this present time,” she said. “I can’t sing about love affairs, love in June - even ‘shake your booty.”’

Loose talk

Six-foot actress/model Elle Macpherson, on rumors sweeping her native Australia that she used to be a man: “I tend to laugh.”

Have some cake, but watch out for the punch

Mike Tyson turns 31 today.

Are lambs more likely to leave the chicks alone?

Those Army sex scandals have even reached the funny pages. “Beetle Bailey” creator Mort Walker revealed that Gen. Amos Halftrack, famed for unabashedly ogling Miss Buxley, is headed for sensitivity training. “We’re going to change the general from an old goat to a lamb and not inspire that kind of thinking anymore,” Walker said.

Must be the guy who did those new Miller ads

A former Miller Brewing executive is suing the company for $9.2 million, saying he was fired for sexual harassment after telling a female co-worker about the “Seinfeld” episode in which Jerry Seinfeld tries to remember a girlfriend’s name that rhymes with a female body part.

And now, for the latest O.J. developments:

A California attorney has filed suit against former O.J. Simpson prosecutor Marcia Clark, saying she improperly sold crime scene and autopsy photographs to Penguin Books for her book about the case, “Without a Doubt.” The photos are state property, the suit says.

Obviously, duty is in the eye of the beholder

Celebrity defense attorney Gerry Spence, who declined an invitation to become part of Simpson’s “dream team,” has his own book about the case coming out this fall. Spence says Simpson is guilty - he even claims to know the whereabouts of the murder weapon - but contends that the prosecution case was so bad, the jury “had a duty” to acquit.

What does that say about the public’s appetite?

Meanwhile, Mezzaluna, the Los Angeles restaurant where Nicole Brown Simpson ate her last meal and fellow murder victim Ron Goldman worked, has closed. “The owner just got tired of the whole thing,” one source said. “It was less of a restaurant and more of a sideshow where people came to gawk and ask questions.”
