Hints From Heloise

King Features Syndicate

Dear Heloise: I have been fighting with the pad on my ironing board forever, it seems. I no sooner smooth it back in place than it slides to one side or creeps back from the narrow end, leaving bare edges. Finally, out of patience, I put a strip of double-sided tape, the kind used to hold rugs to the floor, lengthwise on the bare board, carefully positioned the pad onto the tape and replaced the cover. No more shifting of the pad and after two months, everything is holding. - E.J. Catron, Colorado Springs, Colo.

Dear Heloise: Next time you empty out a chili-seasoning can, instead of throwing it out, refill it with salt and take it to work for your desk drawer.

If there are a few sprinkles of chili powder in it, it won’t hurt a thing. - Ilena Holder, Hollywood, Ala.
