Top-ranked Pete Sampras moved into the semifinals by beating Doug Flach 6-4, 6-2 as he continued to cruise through the Advanta Championships. Sampras will face No. 88 Sjeng Schalken, who beat Jonathan Stark 6-2, 6-4. Grant Stafford and Patrick Rafter are in the other semi.

Jim Johnson Jr., who led five out of six rounds, beat Pete Weber 232-197 in the final match to win pro bowling’s Oregon Open in Portland.
