Rap-Record Exec Sentenced To 9 Years

Compiled From Wire Services

Death Row Records president Marion “Suge” Knight was sentenced to nine years in prison Friday for violating his probation by getting into a fight hours before Tupac Shakur was shot in Knight’s car.

“You blew it,” Superior Court Judge J. Stephen Czuleger told Knight, giving him the maximum sentence. “You really had everything going for you. The problem is, you have engaged over the years in one thing that causes me grave concern … and that is the danger element.”

Defense lawyer David Kenner said Knight will continue to oversee the record company from jail.

Knight was sentenced to five years of probation in 1995 after pleading no contest to assaulting two rappers at a Hollywood recording studio three years earlier. A judge revoked his probation in November and sent him to jail.
