High Above New York, A Little New York

New York Times

When the 107th and 110th floors of 2 World Trade Center in New York reopen March 18, they will constitute more than a two-tier observation deck. The $6 million renovation will transform the site into Top of the World, a mini-theme park based on the New York City scene.

Now, regardless of the weather, there will be things to do at Top of the World, including sitting for six minutes in a theater that simulates the feeling of riding in a helicopter above the city, going to an interactive kiosk to send a digitally transmitted message into space, viewing a sculpture-like installation on which high-gloss balls depict the flow of world trade as they move across a map of the world, and, at night, watching an eight-minute light show.

Eating areas are being designed to look like shops in the subway and a spot in Central Park. Prices will range from about $5 for a slice of pizza and a soda to $30 for a full lunch.

The entry fee will be $10, with children paying $5. Hours are 9:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. 365 days a year.
