There’s Something Wrong With State’s Priorities Letter Of The Week From Feb. 20

It just doesn’t compute. There is a very nice young woman pounding the pavement between Spokane and Kettle Falls, Wash. All she would like the state to do is to make the road (U.S. Highway 395) into a four-lane highway. Maybe even save some lives.

She gets all kinds of chin music about the cost. Gee, lady, that could cost $150 million!

Then Paul Allen sends over his flying squad to visit Olympia. All he wants is the citizens to pony up $400 million to build a monument to a losing football team that will play maybe a dozen games a year in their Taj Mahal.

Think how it helps us, who live over the hill. To attend a game, you will spend maybe $100 for airfare, $50 for a ticket, $20 to $40 for taxi fare and $5 plus for a hot (probably cold) dog on a stale bun. Then, you get to watch butterfingers fumble the pigskin. Great! Many of them could not even catch a cold. And for his effort, butterfingers gets a million a year.

If they need a new stadium, let them dig into their jeans.

Seems like maybe the priorities got a little mixed up. Charles E. McCollim Spokane
