Chiefs March Past Kamloops, 4-2
The calendar says it’s March and the Spokane Chiefs realize it’s time to win.
The Chiefs, who are 15-1-2 in March for coach Mike Babcock the past three seasons, used a four-goal second period to defeat the Kamloops Blazers 4-2 in a Western Hockey League game Tuesday night.
After spotting Kamloops a 1-0 lead through the first period, Spokane tied the score on a slap shot by Joe Cardarelli.
Spokane went ahead on a goal by Marian Cisar, his 27th, then extended its lead to 3-1 barely 1 minute later when Cardarelli tallied again for his 33rd goal.
Cisar’s goal came on a 2-on-1 with Derek Schutz, in which Cisar held control of the puck then snapped it into the net from the left circle. Cardarelli’s second score came from a redirection of Brad Ference’s shot.
After Kamloops made it 3-2, Ference capped the scoring with a power-play goal at the 18:38 mark. Trailing a 3-on-2, Ference was left unguarded after taking a pass from Cisar, skated into the slot and put the puck in the net.
